Loch Muick is situated in Upper Royal Deeside and in the heart of Cairngorms National Park. It is an upland, freshwater loch and is approximately 2.25miles in length, and is surrounded by beautiful mountains, including the majestic Lochnagar.
At the furthest end of the loch is Glas-Allt-Shiel, a hunting lodge originally build for Queen Victoria and completed in 1868, and to which then Queen used as a retreat following the death of husband, Albert. This building remains in Royal ownership, as it is personally owned by Queen Elizabeth II.
The circuit walk around Loch Muick is overall flat, and an enjoyable outing for all ages.
